Information for Mixed Media Classes

Supply list - what to bring

PAINT AND MEDIUM for all classes

  • Bring a bunch of acrylic paints. Good student grade paints are adequate all classes (ex. Opus brand, Michael’s or DeSerres’ Amsterdam paints)

  • Matt Medium, 474ml

BRUSHES for all classes

  • A variety of brushes, 1/4 inch to 2 inches wide

  • 1 to 2 inexpensive flat brush to apply medium (find them at a Dollar Store or Hardware Store)

SURFACE/SUPPORT for all classes

  • 2 - 4 gallery stretched canvases, no smaller that 12 inches and no larger than 20 inches in height or width. Packs of 4 are available at Michaels or Opus

OPTIONAL for all classes

  • A selection of oil pastels or oil crayons

  • Acrylic pens

 MISCELLANEOUS for all classes

  • Smock or clothing that can get dirty or stained

Please note: Some of the required supplies listed below will be available at no cost during class at the studio. So please don’t worry if you are unable to bring everything on the list.

FOR ‘PAPER PATCHES’ CLASS

  •  A selection of magazines, photos, illustrations, fancy paper

  • Tissue paper, textured paper, paper doilies etc.

FOR ‘TRANSFER TAPESTRY’ CLASS

  • A selection for newspaper prints; Magazine clippings of words, lettering, texts that appeal to you

  • Large and small, images of subjects that inspire you in black and white and in color

FOR ‘TANGLED THREADS’ CLASS

  • Fine, thin fabric pieces and/or lace

  • Small amounts of threads, fine cotton yarn, cheesecloth and/or wool

FOR ‘GRAINS AND GRIT’ CLASS

  • Small amounts of grains like semolina, rice, poppy seeds, corn meal

  • Small amounts of salt, or pepper, paprika or turmeric

 

Here is a breakdown of what to expect

 PARTICIPANTS

  • Adults 14+

  • These classes require a spacious set up for each person. The studio can comfortably accommodate a group of 4 participants.

  • Semi-private classes with only 2 participants are available.

DATES AND TIME

  • Option 1"- 2 days: 3 hours per day (date and time to be determined)

  • Option 2 - 1 day: 6 hours with a 45 minute lunch break (date and time to be determined)

  • come 15 min early to set up and stay 15 min longer to clean up

 SKILL LEVEL

  • no experience necessary - these classes are for everyone

WORKSHOP OUTLINE

  • Day 1 – working on 2 paintings: prepare canvas and background - layout a plan and theme - create textured surface

  • Day 2 – paint, add more layers, add desired details, finish frame and sign

INCLUDED IN FEE

  • Some Mixed Media materials

  • easels, tables, stools, palettes, buckets, rags, sponges etc.

COST

  • $110 per person for 2 days, 3 hrs per day (for small group classes, based on 4 participants)

  • $175 per person for 2 days, 3 hrs per day (for semi-private classes, based on 2 participants)
